A GRASS snake has had to be rescued from a cruel and illegal glue trap in Cornwall.

The harmless native reptile was spotted by a member of the public in Liskeard who called the RSPCA for help.

Animal rescue officer Andrew Brenton attended the incident and managed to free the snake from the trap.

He then took the animal to RSPCA West Hatch Wildlife Centre, where the remains of the glue trap were removed before the snake was released back into the wild.

RSPCA wildlife vet David Couper, who helped the snake following the incident which the charity has publicised now as part of a year-end roundup of rescues said: "Glue traps are cruel and indiscriminate and that's why it's now illegal for the public to use them.
