Drill tests responses in event of radiation leak

THREE-DAY TEST OF PLANS IN AND AROUND DOCKYARD
A MAJOR drill to test Devonport dockyard’s emergency plans in the event of a radiation leak will take place over three days from today.
The drill will include an emergency text and phone alert sent to those who have signed up to receive them, as well as looking at how multiple agencies would work together to protect the public in the event of a radiation emergency at Babcock’s Devonport facility, which supports nuclear powered submarines for the Royal Navy.
The Devonport Offsite Emergency Plan outlines the actions that would be taken by the Ministry of Defence, Babcock International Group, emergency services, Plymouth City Council, UK Health Security Agency and other agencies.
The plan is tested regularly through ‘Short Sermon’ exercises which involve the full range of agencies that would be involved.
