CREATING APPRENTICESHIP OPPORTUNITIES IN KEY SECTORS

- ATHWENNA IRONS

City supporting 'future talent'

PLYMOUTH is “leading the way” in creating apprenticeship opportunities across a range of key sectors, according to new figures, proving its commitment to supporting “future talent”.

Data collected in 2023-24 for the city reveals a total of 754 achievements per 100,000 residents, compared with 582 for the South West and 492 for England.

Provided by Plymouth City Council, they also show 16% of the city’s school and college leavers entering onto an apprenticeship, an increase from 10% nationally.

Destination Plymouth, whose role is to promote the city and surrounding areas, as well as grow visitor spend and tourism, says Plymouth already “leads the way with above regional and national rates for Apprenticeship starts, participation and achievements”.

Key sectors for achievements in the city are engineering and manufacturing technologies, construction, planning and the built environment, health, public services and care and business, administration and law.
