INITIATIVE IS FOR ENGLISH TOURISM WEEK

- By KIRSTIE MCCRUM

City showcasing tourism careers

PLYMOUTH is to hold a behind-the-scenes tourism careers showcase as part of a week to promote tourism across the country.

During English Tourism Week 2025 March 14-23 the city will play host to one-off access to discover how key tourism venues across the city contribute to Plymouth's Visitor Economy.

The brand-new initiative is part of the city-wide partnership Welcoming Plymouth.

From Friday, March 14 to Friday, March 21, Welcoming Plymouth aims to embrace the spirit of Britain’s Ocean City and its ambition of growing its Visitor Economy.

The planned goal is to boost visitor numbers by 15% and visitor spend by 30% by 2030, and creating 1,000 extra jobs in tourism in the process.

Visitor Economy Co-ordinator James Blake has already facilitated access to jobs in the sector for over 80 people through one-to-one support since the inception of Welcoming Plymouth around a year ago, with many more candidates currently undergoing training.
