Burrator level drops amid hot spell for region

RESERVOIR DOWN TO 44%, AS MOORLAND DRIES UP

A MAJOR Devon reservoir is more than half empty as the region swelters in roasting weather. Pictures show how low the water level is at Burrator Reservoir, on Dartmoor.

The reservoir, near Plymouth, is at just 44.9% full and close to the level it was at in drought-hit 2012, when there were hosepipe bans in parts of Devon and Cornwall. The water level at Burrator is much lower than it was at this time last year, a wet summer.

Susie Groom, who took the photos and sent them to PlymouthLive said she was concerned about the low level of the water and the impact that would have on wildlife. She said: “We go there quite often. It's just over half empty.

“Everything is so dry. Poor Dartmoor ponies have to search for water. We need a blowhole. Luckily there is a trough near the Pimple but seagulls are using it, and dogs, although not allowed.”
