Arrest after police officer assaulted

A TEENAGER was arrested after an incident in Plymouth city centre on Thursday evening, after a member of the public reported seeing a man carrying a bladed weapon near the sundial.

As police arrived at the scene, a man fled and discarded the weapon, a spokesperson for the force said.

After a search of the area, a pair of scissors was located and have been seized.

While the suspect was being detained, one police officer was attacked and suffered injuries. It is not thought that the injuries are serious and the officer will be checked over.

At the time of the incident, The Herald was told by a witness there was a large police presence near the sundial in Plymouth city centre.
