45,000 expected for Pirates weekend

SOARING temperatures are expected to help entice a record crowd of about 45,000 people to Plymouth's waterfront for the annual Pirates Weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
With forecasters predicting bright sunshine and the thermometer to hit 20C, organisers of the two-day buccaneer-themed extravaganza are planning for bumper crowds.
Jon Walton, chief executive of Plymouth Waterfront Partnership (PWP), said: "We are looking to break records for attendance, we are going for 45,000 people over the two days, spread across the waterfront including West Hoe Park and the Royal William Yard."
