Single bus fare cap increases by 50% to £3 today in much of England

Millions of bus passengers in England have been hit by an increase in single fares from £2 to £3.

The government has increased the fare cap from today for the first time since it was launched for most bus routes two years ago. It will remain at £3 until the end of 2025.

The Department for Transport (DfT) said the increase would enable "potential savings of up to 80% on some routes". Fares that would be less than £3 without the cap, such as many in urban areas, are permitted to rise by no more than inflation.
