Police chiefs to call for an end to the recording of non-crime hate incidents

Police forces would no longer have to log non-crime hate incidents under plans to be presented to the home secretary next month.
Senior officers are expected to call for the category to be scrapped in favour of a new "commonsense" system, according to a report in the Daily Telegraph. The most serious incidents would be recorded as antisocial behaviour instead.
Non-crime hate incidents are perceived to be motivated by hostility or prejudice toward people because of certain characteristics, such as race or gender. They do not meet the threshold of a criminal offence.
The National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) and the College of Policing will give the results of their review of the category to the home secretary, Shabana Mahmood, next month.
