North Korea Bulletproof train delivers Kim to event
The Guardian
|September 03, 2025
North Korea's leader, Kim Jong-un, arrived in Beijing by armoured train to join China's celebrations marking 80 years since Japan's formal surrender in the second world war.
Kim left Pyongyang for China on Monday, and South Korea's Yonhap news agency described his bulletproof train as a moving fortress that travelled at less than 40mph, making the journey about 20 hours long.
The train has been used by the reclusive country's leaders for decades. Compared with North Korea's ageing fleet of passenger aircraft, the armoured carriages offer a safer and more comfortable space for a large entourage, security guards, food and amenities, and a place to discuss agendas before meetings, experts say.
