Don't think twice Ecstatic reactions to Bob Dylan biopic mean Chalamet may break Oscars record

Complete Unknown, James Mangold's biopic of Bob Dylan, finished filming five months ago.
Shortly after, the studio behind the film moved its release date forward to this Christmas bringing it into contention for next year's awards season. Such confidence looks to have been well placed, as an early screening of the film in Hollywood this week won raves on social media. "Timothee Chalamet slides into Bob Dylan with an effortless yet focused determination," wrote Variety's senior awards editor, Clayton Davis. c'He is fearless in some hypnotic moments.," One reviewer, David Poland, praised Chalamet's "enormous power", another, Gregory Ellwood, called the film "superb" and "shockingly moving," while Scott Menzel called it "the performance of the year". Should he prove triumphant next March, Chalamet would beat the 2003 record held by Adrien Brody for the youngest leading actor winner by 268 days (Brody was almost 30 when he won; Chalamet would be just 29). Brody, who won 21 years ago for The Pianist, is one of Chalametjs key rivals this season, for his role as a Holocaust survivor in the epic drama The Brutalist. Other much-fancied performers include Colman Domingo for the prison saga Sing Sing and Ralph Fiennes for the papal thriller Conclave. A Complete Unknown is the 13th movie about the singer-songwriter, following eight documentaries and three dramas in which Dylan played a version of himself, as well as Todd Trying to sound like any living singer is a tough call for an actor, however musically gifted they may be.
