China outlaws concealed car door handles after deaths

China is banning concealed door handles on electric vehicles after a number of deadly incidents triggered scrutiny of a design feature popularised by Tesla.

According to regulations announced by the ministry of industry and information technology, EVs sold in China will be required to have a mechanical release on the inside and outside of every door except the boot. The change will “improve the level of automotive safety design”, the ministry said on Monday.
