Amazon Fresh to close, four years after first store launched

Amazon said yesterday it would shut all of its Amazon Fresh stores in the UK just four years after the US tech company launched its first grocery shop in London.
Amazon said it planned to close all 19 stores, with five of them to be converted into outlets of Whole Foods Market, the US organic grocery chain it bought in 2017.
Amazon launched its first Fresh store in 2021 in Ealing, west London. The stores allow customers to pay for shopping without having to use a till. Instead, shoppers use an app to enter the store and are charged when they leave, with cameras and sensors monitoring the products they had picked up.
