It has begun to feel autumnal. This tree-lined path was strewn with leaves, shed during the heatwave, but enlivened by a blaze of end-of-summer wild flowers: willowherb, knapweed, tansy, ragwort, angelica.
The plant we had come to look for - broad-leaved helleborine - might be more subdued, but has an intoxicating sex life.
