MALTON trainer Peter Niven scored a sweet double at Redcar yesterday when Sugar Baby was followed into the winner's enclosure by Jam Lass.
Joshua Brown after winning his first race on Jam Lass to give Peter Niven a double
Sugar Baby landed the Every Race Live On Racing TV Handicap, with three-pound claimer Alec Voikhansky holding off Mark Winn on the David O’Meara-trained Flowstate by a neck.
Tt was the gelding’s fourth win of the year, including a course and distance victory at Redcar at the start of the season.
The winning trainer said: “He needs good ground and I never thought he’d still be running on turf in October. I had him entered on the all-weather at Newcastle on Tuesday but saw the ground here was going to be good enough. He'll have a break now.”
Niven’s double was sealed in the last race, the Watch Racing Replays At racingtv.com Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap, when Jam Lass gave Joshua Brown his first win.
After the filly had held off favourite Masekela by half a length, Joshua revealed he had gone into racing after losing his job as an accountant during the Covid pandemic.
Now based with Adrian Keatley, Joshua said: “It’s fantastic to get my first winner. She settled nicely and kept finding to the line”
