Student flats plan for former office building

ONE of Middlesbrough's most well-known buildings could have a new lease of life after previous works stalled.

Work could soon start on a major scheme for Vancouver House on Middlesbrough's Corporation Road

Plans have been submitted to Middlesbrough Development Corporation (MDC) that could see Corporation Road’s Vancouver House put to new use.

Proposals seek to change the use of the six-storey building from offices into 183 units of student accommodation.

There would also be retail offerings, a gym and a pub on the ground floor, papers add.

Vancouver House is on the corner of Gurney Street and faces Middlesbrough House and The Empire on the opposite side of Corporation Road.
