Report card: How Boro's 10 new boys have fared so far

A BUSY summer at Middlesbrough saw ten new players arrive at the club, with mixed fortunes for them so far.

Report card: How Boro's 10 new boys have fared so far

Adilson Malanda was an 11th signing, though he was loaned straight back to Charlotte FC and won't become a Boro player until January.

Of the other ten, only one is yet to make his debut for the club, while there have been varying levels of success so far.

What's only fair to point out it’s that it’s still very early for every new player and it’s evident, particularly in attack, that there is still much adapting to do.

Nevertheless, we take a look at each of the new signings and how they've fared so far.

The only summer signing yet to make his debut. Goalkeeper McLaughlin has been brought in as a senior deputy to Sol Brynn after Tom Glover, and, because of Brynn’s form and fitness, he hasn’t been needed. A veteran with plenty of experience, McLaughlin's presence around the club has been praised by insiders, however, with his wisdom no doubt a huge help for Brynn.

He's been put forward by many as the best signing of the summer so far, and it’s hard to argue against that. Jones was perhaps the most under-the-radar signing of the summer, joining from Hull City for a relatively small fee. One of just three players to start all ten games so far this season, he’s slotted in seamlessly.

Signed with the intention of adding more reliability and robustness to Boro’s backline, he’s provided exactly that, with a no-nonsense, minimal-fuss style and all-on-the-line defensive attitude. He's been excellent so far as part of Boro's much-improved defence.

Another of the real positives so far from the summer signings, Brittain has quickly established himself in the right wing-back role and has been showing exactly why Boro were so keen to sign him this summer.
