BUT MORE IMPROVEMENTS NEEDED, SAY INSPECTORS

- By JADE MCELWEE

A MIDDLESBROUGH nursing home is no longer in special measures but still 'requires improvement'.

The Gables Care Home was rated as 'inadequate' in August 2024 with concerns raised including staff sleeping on shifts and not being properly trained in moving and handling people, which could place them at risk of harm.

The Highfield Road venue was visited again between May 22 and June 5. It was graded as 'requires improvement' in four out of five areas, including safe, effective, responsive and well-led.

However, the home was said to be 'good' in the area of caring. In a Care Quality Commission (CQC) report, published on July 2, inspectors said: "At the last inspection in June 2024, we rated the home inadequate with six breaches of legal regulation in relation to governance and oversight, including care records and medicines, the need for consent, safeguarding, person centred care, duty of candour and failure to notify CQC of incidents set out in the regulations.
