NHS nurse struck off for misconduct

The Gazette

November 18, 2025

A NURSE who undertook agency shifts whilst on sick leave and labelled a colleague a "green-eyed monster" has been struck off.

- By JADE MCELWEE & KRISTY DAWSON

Karen Ann Eden, a senior clinical advisor for the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS), was found to have taken up agency work for personal financial gain during her sick leave.

She then took to social media to call a colleague, whom she suspected had reported her, as a "green eyed monster".

In a Facebook post from February last year, she named the colleague three times and stated: "Jealousy is an awful trait to have and you are a real green-eyed monster."

A misconduct panel concluded that she intended to intimidate her coworker. The panel stated: "In it Mrs Eden makes multiple statements that are clearly offensive and intended to cause hurt or otherwise intimidate Colleague A, including by comparing them to 'a green-eyed monster'.

The panel considered that such language is inherently intimidating."
