Man admits wounding after person 'set alight'

THREE people have admitted a string of offences on the day an attempted murder trial was due to begin after a person was “set alight” in Redcar.

Emergency services were called to Peggy Junes, on Queen Street in Redcar, just after 8pm on February 15. Three people were taken to hospital for treatment and police launched an investigation.

Carl Wild, 34, was due to stand trial charged with attempted murder but has now admitted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and aggravated burglary.

The lesser charge is acceptable to the crown prosecution service, Teesside Crown Court heard.

On the first day of what was expected to be a three week trial, co-accused Lee Wild, 37, admitted a section 4 public order offence and Simone Reed, 36, pleaded guilty to encouraging or assisting the commission of an offence - the offence being arson with recklessness as to whether life would be endangered.
