Major moor fire latest as smoke warning issued

WILDFIRES across moorlands in North Yorkshire continue to impact the surrounding area, with increased smoke affecting a coastal town.

Langdale Moor had been ablaze for over a two weeks, having first ignited on Tuesday, August 12, with North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service having now brought the blaze under control.
The fires were fuelled by scorching temperatures and dry grassland, wreaking havoc throughout North Yorkshire and along the Yorkshire Coast.
Following intensive efforts by emergency crews and local farmers, the fires were finally brought under control on Friday, August 29.
However, in a subsequent update, the service has cautioned residents that Whitby remains subject to heightened smoke levels, reports Yorkshire Live.
