Listed pub to be repaired

The Thomas Sheraton pub is in line for a facelift

A 19TH CENTURY building that houses a town centre Wetherspoon pub will be repaired and improved under plans given the go-ahead by Stockton Council.

J D Wetherspoon PLC applied for permission for repairs to the Victorian Grade II listed building's stone and brickwork, window frames, resealing of roof lights, roof resurfacing and replacement of missing and damaged roof tiles.

Planning officers have approved the plans for the 1860s-built former county court on Bridge Road in Stockton town centre.

The developer said it wanted to improve and restore "failing aspects" of the building and "deliver sensitive repairs to the listed property through a delicate, like-for-like approach" with careful works to its front, back, side and roofs which will not affect the building's layout.

It will clean and brush down the brickwork, replace damaged brick or stonework, redecorate windows, check and replace tiles, gutters and rainwater goods, overlay flat roofs and make good failing seals.
