Dutch delight as Tigers enjoy swift Holland trip

BARELY a couple of hours sleep and a thumping 64-26 victory sums up a happy but tired entourage representing Middlesbrough Tigers last weekend.

Having driven through the night Saturday, via the overnight Dover to Calais ferry in the early hours and back again late on Sunday, organisers Brian Turner and Theo Pijper could reflect on a novel but to be cherished experience which hopefully will benefit the riders from both Teesside and Dutch speedway club Lelystad.

The venture - the first team meeting at the venue for a decade - was designed to help restore the sport to a motorsports complex which, similar to the South Tees Motorsports Park, also features motocross, car and kart racing.

On the slightly banked 300m track, riders and a handful of helpers put any lack of sleep on the back-burner as a Tigers ‘select’ romped to an almost 40-point success over their Dutch hosts, with seven 5-1s and heat advantages in all but three races.
