Velez grad tops med tech licensure

A Cebuano has made history by clinching the top 1 spot nationwide in the March 2025 Medical Technologists Licensure Examination, with his alma mater being the only Cebu-based university to secure a place on the topnotcher list.

Jherry Andrei Arbotante, a 23-year-old graduate from Velez College, has emerged as the top performer in the result released by the Professional Regulation Commission, besting 7,659 examinees nationwide and securing the highest rating of 92.3%.

Arbotante, from Kinasang-an Pardo, Cebu City, said in an exclusive interview with The FREEMAN that he has been a consistent honor student throughout his entire educational journey, starting from the very beginning.

In elementary, Arbotante graduated valedictorian at the Don Bosco Technology Center and continued his academic excellence as the first honors in both Junior High School and Senior High School at Cebu City National Science High School, where he also earned the title of valedictorian.

Upon completing his degree in Medical Technology, Arbotante graduated magna cum laude.

Arbotante is the youngest in his family, with one older sister and one older brother. He is the son of Herfa and Jerome Arbotante. He said that one of the key inspirations behind his drive for excellence in his studies is his family.

"I am always amazed by their sacrifices and unconditional love for me and so I am determined to try my best and give back to them," said Arbotante.
