Toxic Masculinity

Toxic masculinity is an attitude or set of social guidelines that're stereotypically associated with manliness that often have a negative impact on men, women, and society in general.

The term "toxic masculinity" is not intended to imply that the idea of masculinity in itself is inherently bad, but is meant to point out that certain behaviors and ways of thinking often associated with masculinity — from mental and physical toughness to sexism and homophobia, - and how these have a negative and often dangerous impact on the world.

Generally, the behavior manifests when the archetypal image of what it means to be masculine becomes harmful and aspirational.

It largely thrives by penalizing behavior which does not conform to its standard and celebrating behavior which does.
