THE ILLUSION OF CONTROL

Life is rife with illusions and realities, among the most overlooked of which is that there are things that are beyond our control.

I'm not a Buddhist, but there are Buddhist teachings that can help us deal with this fact - teachings that help us weave through triumphs and challenges as we paddle our canoe in this journey day in and day out.

Here are some Buddhist viewpoints which I've come to embrace as eyeopeners that're worth one's while to reflect on:

"When we look closely, as human beings, we keep trying to control life, thinking that if we just plan enough or work hard enough, everything will go smoothly.

But has life ever really followed our plans? We see many things beyond our control. Flights are delayed no matter how important our schedule feels.
