Tecson's arrival heralds new era for USJ-R Lady Jaguars

The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Lady Jaguars have been on a three-year championship drought in women's volleyball of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI).

At one point, they finished perfect in the elimination round only to falter in the semifinals.

But for multi-titled coach Roldan Potot, the Lady Jaguars' fate might finally change this year following the arrival of Rachel Ann Tecson, a two-time CESAFI girls volleyball Most Valuable Player.

"With Tecson in the women's lineup, I am really positive of our chances to bring back the championship crown. She is an all-around player. She is a good passer in the back row and she is also our percentage player in the front row," coach Potot said of his prized protégé.

"It's true that the women's team hasn't brought home a championship since 2022. I know that can be tough, especially for everyone who's been supporting the Lady Jaguars all this time. But for me, I see it as a chance to step up. I'm not saying I can change everything on my own, but I'll do my part - work harder, stay consistent, and bring good energy to the team. I just want to help build something stronger this year, and hopefully, together, we can turn things around," Tecson said via Messenger.
