- Bella Cariaso, Philippine Star News Service/FPL

A study conducted by experts from various universities has found that reforestation efforts under the government’s National Greening Program (NGP) had minimal impact on forest cover in Central Visayas from 2013 to 2019, despite widespread tree-planting activities and amid recent incidents of massive flooding in the region, particularly in Cebu.

The study, released by the University of the Philippines (UP) Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, was authored by Nimfa R. Pansit of the Biology Department of Cebu Normal University and the Graduate School-Biology Department of the University of San Carlos, and Richard B. Parilla of the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, University of the Philippines Visayas Tacloban College.

It was published in the Mindanao Journal of Science and Technology.
