After more than a year in hiding, the top 6 most wanted person at the regional level was arrested following an armed confrontation with police during the serving of warrants in Sitio Maling, Barangay Babag, Cebu City, last Monday afternoon, December 22.
The suspect, Melchor Macaraya, was the subject of two warrants of arrest for violation of Section 11 of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act) and Section 28 of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
Police said the operation turned violent around 5:45 P.M. when Macaraya allegedly drew his firearm and fired twice at the arresting officers, prompting them to return fire, hitting the suspect on the right lower leg.
