Recto hails Cebu as a national “powerhouse”

Finance Secretary Ralph Recto on Thursday, September 18, hailed Cebu as a “powerhouse of development,” saying its booming economy is reflected not only in investment figures but also in the daily lives of its people.

Speaking before business leaders during the Philippine Economic Briefing held in Cebu City, Recto cited the rapid growth of real estate, rising consumer spending, and the mushrooming of malls and hotels as proof of Cebu’s strong economic momentum.

“Cebu has outgrown its role as a regional hub. It now stands as a national powerhouse that competes, creates, and connects the entire Philippines to the world,” Recto said.

He emphasized that beyond statistics, development is best measured by how it improves the lives of ordinary Cebuanos.

Recto also highlighted the Marcos administration’s anti-corruption drive, particularly in infrastructure and flood control projects, saying this ensures public resources are spent more efficiently and with greater transparency.
