PSC chairman Pato Gregorio fascinated by Cebu City's grassroots sports program

In his first Cebu visit since taking over the reins of the Philippine Sports Commission last month, PSC chairman Patrick “Pato” Gregorio toured several facilities including the Cebu City Sports Center, the Cebu City Sports Institute, and a pocket gym for aspiring weightlifters in Barangay Carreta where he got a closer look at the city's comprehensive grassroots program.

Accompanied by PSC commissioner Edward Hayco - the chief architect of Cebu City's highly successful grassroots sports program, Gregorio was deeply touched at the sight of young athletes training diligently to the best of their capacity under the guidance of their dedicated coaches in the hope of fulfilling their aspirations in life someday.

"For these coaches and young athletes, sports is both a way forward and a way back to their communities," said Gregorio, who also met with some local leaders including Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival and Vice Mayor Tomas Osmeña.
