Just weeks ago, the Cebu City Council called upon the Cebu City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) and the DPWH to update the council on the status of the city's drainage master plan within 15 days, after pointing out that widespread flooding stems from the city's outdated drainage systems.

While it has been openly broadcast that Cebu City’s drainage system is already outdated—thus primarily contributing to the perennial flooding in the city—it has been revealed that the biggest hurdle to its upgrade is actually the acquisition of lots. This was also according to Councilor David Tumulak during previous interviews.

As of the present, 22 projects are ongoing and are mostly for constructing flood mitigation structures and drainage systems in other areas.

These include Barangay Basak San Nicolas; along Lahug River in Barangay T. Padilla; along Mananga River in Barangays Bonbon and Buot-Taup; along Guadalupe River in Barangay Kalunasan; along Kinalumsan River; and along Bulacao River.

There is also ongoing construction of drainage structures along Salinas Drive and Gorordo Ave., as well as in Barangays Talamban, Mabolo, Pit-os, and Poblacion Pardo.
