New PNP chief named after Torre's relief

The former second-in-command of the Philippine National Police (PNP) replaced Gen. Nicolas Torre III in the police's top leadership.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla confirmed on Tuesday, August 26, that Lt. Gen. Jose Nartatez Jr. has been appointed as the new PNP chief after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. relieved Torre from his post, ending his three-month tenure at the PNP's top post.
The appointment, dated August 25, was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
Prior to Nartatez's current appointment, he was the PNP deputy chief for administration, the second-highest rank in the PNP.
It could be recalled that on August 14, Nartatez was reinstated by the National Police Commission as the PNP's deputy chief for administration, overturning Torre's supposed appointment to him as the area police commander in Western Mindanao.
