MCWD affirms stability, but seeks LGU support

Despite stable revenues, MCWD cited rising costs—including materials for water treatment, infrastructure maintenance, and network expansion—as the basis for its request for a tariff adjustment.
-
In 2022, MCWD applied for a 60 percent water rate adjustment with the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) as part of its 10-year strategic plan to improve water services in Metro Cebu. So far, LWUA has granted a 38 percent provisional increase, which took effect in March 2025.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, MCWD said it suspended disconnections and introduced staggered bill payments to ease the financial burden on consumers.
As of now, the minimum residential charge (for 0-10 cubic meters) has increased from P152 to P209.76 per household, with tiered rates for higher consumption brackets.
