Mayors, farmers back food security plan

The food security initiative led by Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro’s food security team is gaining traction across northern Cebu, as four mayors and hundreds of farmers and fisherfolk expressed support to revive abandoned farmlands and stabilize the province’s food supply.

Former Agriculture secretary Manny Piñol, now serving as Baricuatro’s food security adviser, is spearheading the rollout of a five-year food security program designed to transform idle lands and coastal areas into hubs of agricultural and aquacultural productivity.

Piñol met with Medellin Mayor Edwin Salimbangon, Bogo City Mayor Mayel Martinez, San Remigio Mayor Mariano Martinez, and Daanbantayan Mayor Gilbert Arrabis Jr. to discuss this matter.
