Mayor: Third party organized night market
The Freeman
|October 14, 2025
Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival reiterated that a third-party channel has already been established to bridge the Colon Night Market operations between the vendors and the city amid questions and concerns surrounding its legality in the absence of GASA sa Gugma Board as convener.

In an interview yesterday, Archival also challenged those who raised complaints, particularly regarding the rent, to personally bring their concerns to his office.
“Dili ko kasabot. Wa g’yud ko. Sigeng yawyaw,” said Archival.
The current night market operations have been hounded with questions on legality after Councilor Pastor “Jun” Alcover raised the issue through a privilege speech before the council. This came after Archival refused to convene the GASA Board, the policy-making body responsible for organizing the night market’s operations.
Archival said it has already been explained that there’s a third-party association that paid at least P200,000 in exchange for a grant to organize the night market operations. In exchange, the arrangement was approved by the Office of the City Mayor and the Business Processing and Licensing Office (BPLO).
“And then they are the ones who organized it, and then pagkahuman ang katong nag-organize gipa-rent niya iyang mga tents, what's the problem with that?” said Archival.

THE CHRISTMAS TREE OF HOPE
It was already the holiday season, but the air in Barangay San Isidro didn't smell of roasted ham or sweet bibingka. Instead, it smelled of mud, damp clothes, and the faint scent of loss. Typhoon Tino had swept through the town just weeks before, leaving behind broken homes and shattered memories. Families now lived under rows of tents lined along the barangay road, just by the river.
