Marcos orders DPWH to prioritize Cebu's rehabilitation

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has directed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to make the rehabilitation of Cebu a top priority following the devastation caused by Typhoon Tino.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, who visited Cebu on Wednesday, personally inspected the hardest-hit communities, including Sitio Isla Verde in Barangay San Isidro, Talisay City, where homes were swept away by massive flooding.
“Whatever the mayor, the governor and our other mayors, especially those hardest hit by Typhoon Tino need, we will provide everything. The President instructed me to ensure that all available DPWH resources are at their disposal,” Dizon said.
He said all available heavy equipment in Cebu—such as backhoes, dump trucks, and decloggers—has been mobilized to help clear debris, reopen roads, and remove silt from drainage systems clogged with mud and river sediments.
DPWH teams have begun road-clearing and drainage-declogging operations in affected areas. The department is also assessing the structural integrity of key bridges in the province.
“We'll check all bridges for safety, but the most important thing is to move quickly,” Dizon said.
