Mandaue to continue use of MGLP as MRF

The Mandaue City government will continue using the Mandaue Green Learning Park (MGLP) as a waste transport station and materials recovery facility (MRF) as it seeks long-term and cost-efficient solutions to its solid waste disposal challenges, Mayor Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano said.

Ouano said the use of the MGLP was initially intended to last only two weeks, but logistical difficulties in directly hauling garbage outside the city prompted the local government to extend its use.

“Dili na lang ni siya two weeks. Gamiton gyud ni sa city,” Ouano said, adding that the facility will now function as both a transport station and an MRF.

Under the current arrangement, biodegradable waste will remain at the MGLP, while residual waste will be transported to the Asian Energy Systems Corporation facility in Barangay Polog, Consolacion.

The mayor clarified that the city’s garbage trucks will not be used to haul residual waste to Consolacion. Instead, the city will tap a contracted hauler for the job.
