IF COMELEC DOES NOT RESPOND City to merge Charter Day, midyear bonuses

With the Charter Day bonus still in limbo, the Cebu City Government is considering consolidating it with the midyear bonus if the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) does not approve its release within the election period.

Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia said this is a contingency measure to ensure employees still receive the financial benefit, despite delays caused by the election spending ban.
“And we will just wait nalang this week for their reply but I am still very hopeful that within this week at the latest Friday that we will get a reply from the COMELEC,” Garcia said.
Garcia noted that the City Treasurer’s Office is ready to distribute the bonuses as soon as COMELEC gives the go signal.
“Our employees have been waiting for that even before the Holy Week,” he added.
