ICC keeps Duterte detained; chamber junks new appeal

The International Criminal Court’s Appeals Chamber has rejected the appeal of former president Rodrigo Duterte seeking his interim release, affirming an earlier decision ordering his continued detention.

ICC spokesperson Oriane Maillet said the appellate judges unanimously upheld the January 26 ruling of Pre-Trial Chamber I to keep Duterte at the ICC detention center in the Netherlands.
“The Appeals judges unanimously confirm the decision of Pre-Trial Chamber I, which had remanded Mr. Duterte in detention,” Maillet said Friday, March 6.
