DOT boosts aid for tourism workers affected by quake

The Department of Tourism (DOT) has intensified its response efforts, extending assistance to more than 1,100 displaced tourism workers, activating Tourist Rest Areas (TRAs) as donation hubs, and initiating inspections of heritage churches and cultural sites damaged by the 6.9 magnitude earthquake in northern Cebu.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, who joined President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Cabinet officials in an inspection of ground zero in Bogo City on October 2, emphasized the urgency of restoring livelihoods and preserving Cebu’s cultural and tourism assets.

The President visited the Archdiocesan Shrine of San Vicente Ferrer in Bogo City, the SM Cares Village in Polambato, and the Cebu Provincial Hospital to assess infrastructure damage and oversee government response.

Frasco expressed gratitude for the President’s presence and support, citing the provision of food and water, restoration of utilities, and financial assistance to the province and local government units.
