Dalaguete kids to benefit from nutrition project

Hundreds of daycare children in Dalaguete town will soon benefit from a steady supply of free and nutritious food and snacks following recent turnover of an almost P10-million nutrition-focused sub-project by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The project, located in Sitio Cansusi, Barangay Tapon, is part of the KALAHI-CIDSS - Philippine Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Project (PMNP) and was formally turned over by DSWD Assistant Secretary for Promotive Programs Edmon Monteverde.

The sub-project provides learning materials, seedlings, backyard gardening tools, and Rice-Mongo (Ri-Mo) production equipment intended to support the local production of nutritious snacks for daycare children.

Local officials see the Ri-Mo facility not only as a nutrition intervention but also as a potential economic driver. Dalaguete Mayor Nelin Tambis said the local government plans to provide the nutritious food products for free to children while exploring opportunities to market them to neighboring towns to help sustain operations and generate income.
