Contractor sets new CBRT deadline: August

Following the unfulfilled commitment to complete the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (CBRT) project by June 30, Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival Sr. said the contractor has now set a new deadline in August.

Archival told the media yesterday that they are currently focusing on the land acquisition portion of the CBRT project. These are the areas that will be affected by the route the CBRT will pass through.

Archival said they are now in the process of acquiring lots near the South Road Properties (SRP), with funding already allotted by the Department of Transportation (DOTr), approximately amounting to P900 million. However, since the acquisition has been delayed, the cost of the area has risen to P1.7 billion.

Archival reiterated that the responsibility of the city government is to facilitate the acquisition, which is being funded by the DOTr.

However, as of this time, out of the 55 affected landowners, only 25 have agreed to the acquisition.
