City gov't probes road opening project issues

The Cebu City government is investigating the unfinished Pardo-Toong road project, which has remained unfinished, and has reportedly increased the risk of flooding in nearby residential areas.

Councilor Dave Tumulak, the chairman of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CCDRMC), stated yesterday that the decision was made following a site survey. During the survey, they identified at least two housing developments in the area, which raised concerns for them.

"Because they plan to open that road... I don’t know if they know, nganong ila man gibutang gyud sa kilid sa tuong dalan, mura mag atong gipangandaman kining mga housing units didto sa ibabaw," said Tumulak.

He added that they cannot discount this possibility, as the project’s goal is to open a road for access intended for the residents of Toong, Buhisan, which coincides with the development of said housing.

In addition, Tumulak stated that the drainage system in the area has not yet been constructed, causing water to overflow into the lower areas during every rainstorm.
