|November 02, 2025
Cebu City’s disaster preparedness efforts took a significant stride forward with the first nighttime earthquake drill held at Cebu I.T. Park, targeting the city’s Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) community.
-
The simulation was organized by the city government through the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CCDRRMO), in coordination with Ayala Property Management Corporation (APMC) and participating BPO companies.
According to a report from the city’s Public Information Office (PIO), the activity was fully supported by Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival, along with Vice Mayor Tommy Osmeña, despite the latter still being on medical leave.
City Councilor Harold Kendrick Go, Chairman of the Committee on Business and Urban Planning of the city council, oversaw and joined the activity as he acknowledged the importance of public-private coordination in emergency response.
The drill involved evacuation procedures, identification of assembly areas, and role familiarization for emergency teams. It was conducted with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), led by Regional Director Fred Trajeras Jr. and Superintendent Tito Purgatorio, along with the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), the Philippine Red Cross, officials from Barangays Apas and Lahug, and the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO).
