The Cebu City Transportation Office has requested additional manpower and mobility resources from the city government, citing operational challenges, particularly during nighttime enforcement.
-
This came after CCTO head Raquel Arce acknowledged shortcomings in her office following a recent vehicular crash that claimed the life of a courier delivery rider at the intersection of Gorordo Avenue and J. Solon Drive in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City early morning of March 23.
The victim, identified as 35-year-old Ivan Serintas Avila, was killed after being hit by two overspeeding motorcycles while on his way to deliver an item.
Reports said Avila was first struck by a motorcycle driven by 21-year-old Dendril Montehermoso, who had an 11-year-old back rider. He was then hit by another motorcycle driven by a 16-year-old who fled the scene.
Avila sustained fatal injuries from the successive collisions and was declared dead on the spot.
The second driver later surrendered to authorities in the afternoon. Investigators also found that both drivers were unlicensed.
