BIR files P1.6-B tax evasion raps vs ex-DPWH Bulacan engineers

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has filed tax evasion complaints against former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bulacan engineers Henry Alcantara, Brice Hernandez and Jaypee Mendoza over alleged unpaid tax obligations from 2020 to 2024 totaling P1.6 billion.

In three separate complaints filed before the Department of Justice (DOJ) yesterday, the BIR, represented by its commissioner Romeo “Jun” Lumagui Jr., charged Alcantara, Hernandez and Mendoza with violations of Section 254 of the National Internal Revenue Code (NIRC) for their alleged attempt to evade or defeat tax liabilities and Section 255 of the NIRC for their supposed failure to supply correct and accurate information in their income tax returns (ITRs).

Lumagui said the BIR's tax liability assessment against Alcantara, Hernandez and Mendoza was based on their declared wealth in their Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALNs) as against their paid income tax as reflected in their respective ITRs for taxable years 2020 to 2024.
