Austria eyes more Filipino workers to fill labor gaps

The government of Austria is intensifying efforts to attract skilled professionals from the Philippines as it confronts persistent labor shortages across key sectors including healthcare, hospitality, engineering, and information technology.

Speaking during a recently held trade mission to Cebu, Arnulf Gressel, commercial counsellor at the Austrian Embassy’s Commercial Section, highlighted his country’s growing demand for foreign talent and its confidence in the Philippine labor system.

“The Philippines has a strong education and training infrastructure in place,” Gressel said in an interview.

“The system ensures both sides are protected—the qualifications are solid, and there’s reliability in the workforce,” he said.
