Mayor Nestor Archival has ordered a review of Cebu City’s seemingly “costly” 911 emergency hotline contract, contrasting it with the free Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) unified 911 system, which was formally launched in the city last month.

During the City’s 4th Quarter City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) meeting at the Legislative Building Social Hall the other day, Archival revealed that the City government currently spends between P1 million and P2 million monthly—amounting to at least P12 million annually—for its local 911 system.
Stressing its corresponding expenses, Archival said the City must consider harmonizing with the DILG’s Unified 911, which consolidates all emergency calls under one integrated network.
“Karon, ang syudad nagbayad ug up to P2 million every month for a system nga ang DILG actually offers for free,” Archival said, directing the Secretariat to coordinate with DILG Regional Director Leocadio Trovela and relevant agencies.
