Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival has been invited anew to Japan—this time by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI)—to join a two-day trade and healthcare mission in Tokyo on February 25-26, 2026.

Archival had earlier been scheduled to travel to Yokohama in November 2025 to attend the Smart Cities Conference, where he was set to speak on technology, mobility, and climate resilience.

However, that trip was canceled at the last minute as Tropical Depression Verbena approached the Visayas, prompting Archival to remain in Cebu to oversee disaster-preparedness operations following a brief official trip to Manila.

The mayor explained then that while the conference offered valuable learning opportunities, his foremost duty was to stay with his constituents during a time of potential risk.
